The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action will hold its 2017 Annual Conference Nov. 16–18 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

According to ARNOVA, the theme for this year’s conference is “Strengthening Local Communities: The Role of Nonprofit and Philanthropic Organizations.” In recent years, the group said, there’s been a resurgence of interest in place-based work on the part of nonprofits and the larger philanthropic community. This is being driven, in part, by efforts to devolve responsibility for addressing public needs to local communities, which has sparked a surge of scholarly interest in the roles that nonprofits play in local communities, including how they impact local economies, health and education systems, and environments.

Workshops and presentations will explore these issues and more.

Fees for the conference range up to $426.
